Venezuela ‘s ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Samuel Moncada, called for an end to the historical injustice and imperialist delirium of the 63-year long blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
Moncada made the statements at a UN session held to discuss the draft resolution presented by Havana demanding an end to the blockade. The resolution is an annual ritual since it was first proposed in 1992. Every year, it is supported by an overwhelming majority of UN member states. Since 2009, each year except for 2019, only the US and the Zionist colony of “Israel” have voted against the resolution. In 2019, these two member states were joined by Brazil, at that time ruled by Jair Bolsonaro, in opposing the resolution.
Moncada participated in the 32nd session of the UN, where he condemned the blockade against Cuba, describing the measure as an “anachronistic policy,” given that this siege affects all countries that maintain legal and sovereign economic, commercial, or financial relations with Cuba.
Moncada described the blockade of Cuba as the most unjust, severe, and prolonged system of unilateral coercive measures—euphemistically referred to as “sanctions.”
He noted that the blockade is a planned crime as part of a policy of maximum pressure which has its roots in the supremacist mentality of the Monroe Doctrine and continues to be applied today, especially against countries on the American continent.
Moncada also stated that the United States will never achieve its goal of turning Cuba into a colony, since the people are determined to exercise their right to self-determination, independence, and national sovereignty.
He considered the blockade as a massive violation of the human rights of the Cuban people and noted that no Cuban family is exempt from its detrimental impact.
Regarding the US inclusion of Cuba on its list of nations that support terrorism, Moncada noted that the true promoter and financier of terrorism is the United States, not Cuba, and demanded that the US put an end to its double standards and once and for all exclude Cuba from this list.
“Let us all support the Cuban government in its just claim,” he concluded.
