A team of five people from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights will visit Venezuela from March 11th to 22nd, 2019 at the invitation of the Venezuelan Government.
During their visit, the team will meet with government leaders, representatives of the National Assembly, with civil society organizations and with victims of alleged human rights violations.
The team will visit Caracas and other cities in various states of Venezuela.
The visit is the result of the invitation that the Venezuelan Government sent to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, to carry out an official mission to the country.
In States where the UN Office for Human Rights is not present, it is standard practice to send a preliminary technical mission prior to the possible visit of the High Commissioner.
This exercise is carried out to be certain that the High Commissioner would obtain unrestricted access to all persons and to all the places she would like to visit, in order to obtain a clear vision of the human rights situation in the country.
