In the midst of the war extending from the Gaza Strip to Lebanon, and in tandem with the major escalation in the West Bank, the suffering of Palestinian prisoners in the occupation prisons is increasing as they feel that they have been forgotten and that they have been transformed into experiments for Zionist fascism in the form of torture and murder. A video clip published by the Hebrew media on the anniversary of October 7 shows dozens of enemy soldiers with police dogs storming a prison under the leadership of the Minister of ‘National Security’, Itamar Ben-Gvir. This brutal assault on the prisoners is only a small example of the attacks that these prisoners are subjected to, which have reached the point of prisoners in occupation jails being murdered.
Last Friday, the martyrdom of prisoner Muhammad Munir Musa (37 years old) from Bethlehem was announced in Soroka Hospital. It is worth noting that the occupation authorities arrested him on April 20, 2023, and he was held in the infamous Ramon Prison before he was recently transferred to the hospital. He is married and has three daughters, the youngest of whom is three years old. According to the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Prisoners’ Club, the martyred Muhammad Munir Musa “suffered from diabetes” before his arrest and until now, there is “no information about the circumstances of his martyrdom.” In a joint statement, they stressed that “the systematic crimes of the ‘Israeli’ occupation, including torture, medical malpractice in multiple forms, and starvation crimes, have been the main reasons for the martyrdom of 40 prisoners and detainees after October 7, whose identities and data are known to the relevant institutions.” The martyr Muhammad Munir Musa was added to them, bringing the number to 41 martyrs in total.
This number, which includes 24 martyrs from Gaza, does not account for the dozens of martyrs among Gaza detainees whose identities the occupation continues to conceal. Additionally, this is historically the highest number compared to previous years, during which many prisoners were martyred. Since October 7, the ‘Israeli’ authorities have turned the prisons into unbearable hellholes. Measures endorsed by the highest political levels in ‘Israel’, incited and directed by Ben-Gvir, have transformed the detention centers into human slaughterhouses, both directly and indirectly, through starvation and denial of medical treatment amid widespread outbreaks of disease. Several freed prisoners have confirmed that dozens of their comrades are suffering severe conditions and are on the verge of martyrdom, while the occupation forces impose an information blackout on the situation of Gaza prisoners, in terms of their numbers, health conditions, and the number of martyrs among them. These prisoners are subjected to military procedures and face horrific crimes that threaten their lives around the clock, all within the framework of a broad extermination campaign that manifests in various forms, including assaults on prisoners.
‘Israel’ Burns Palestinians Alive in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital
The occupation forces continue to tighten their military measures in the West Bank governorates, in what has become martial law.
On a parallel front, towns and villages in the West Bank are witnessing an escalation in attacks by settler gangs, especially with the start of the olive harvest season. Dozens of villages are being attacked by these settlers, who target farmers, prevent them from reaching their lands, and assault them. These attacks have become daily occurrences, carried out under heavy protection from the occupation army, as part of a policy of tightening the noose on the population. Yesterday, dozens of attacks were reported in villages south of Nablus, northeast of Ramallah, and north of Salfit, most notably in the village of Qusra near Nablus, where settlers cut down dozens of olive trees, attacked farmers and olive harvesters, and expelled them from the area under threat of arms, all under the protection of the occupation army. Other villages, including Al-Mughayyir, Turmus Ayya, Jalud, Yasuf, and Duma, were also subjected to settler attacks aimed at preventing the residents from harvesting olives.
This comes as the occupation forces continue to tighten their military measures in the West Bank by closing checkpoints and the entrances to cities, towns, and villages, obstructing Palestinian movement, in what has become de-facto martial law. In the same context, the occupation army has deployed hundreds of soldiers to reinforce the West Bank division to protect settlements and the apartheid wall area, which the security establishment believes is being used by many Palestinians to enter occupied Palestine to carry out suicide operations. Meanwhile, the ‘Israel Land Authority’ has decided to confiscate the UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem to establish 1,440 settlement units, noting that the project is in its “preparatory stages.” This decision follows a series of attacks on the headquarters located in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood by settlers in recent months, including an attempt to burn it down, culminating in the ‘Israel Land Authority’ informing UNRWA at the end of May that it must vacate the building within 30 days and pay a fine.
