Venezuela and Chile signed a police cooperation agreement to combat transnational organized crime.
The signing of the agreement took place on Thursday, January 18, at the headquarters of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas.
The event was attended by the deputy minister of the Integrated Criminal Investigation System of the Ministry of Internal Relations, Justice and Peace of Venezuela, General Humberto Ramírez, and the Chilean Undersecretary of the Interior Manuel Monsalve. They signed the bilateral cooperation agreement.
They were joined by Venezuelan deputy minister for Latin America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rander Peña; the director of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminalistic Investigations Corps (CICPC), Douglas Rico, and the deputy director of Police and Criminalistic Investigations of the Chilean Investigative Police, Lautaro Arias.

The agreement ratifies the bilateral commitment to promote a series of actions, including personnel training, generation of early warnings regarding the new modus operandi used by criminal gangs, and the maintenance of a list of fugitives and the exchange of criminal records of investigative targets.

Deputy Minister Rander Peña stated that the agreement complies with the instructions of President Nicolás Maduro, who asked for expansion of all coordination mechanisms to combat organized crime.
“Today a police cooperation agreement has been signed between Venezuela and Chile,” Peña said. “We are going to work jointly, harmoniously, as instructed by our presidents. We are going against organized crime.”

The Chilean Undersecretary of the Interior Manuel Monsalve described the agreement as unprecedented, adding that it will allow the establishment of support mechanisms in the region.
“This agreement will allow us to have collaboration mechanisms between our police forces that will help us to work together against organizations dedicated to transnational crime,” Monsalve said.
