The vice president of Venezuela, Delcy RodrĂguez, repudiated the criminal and illicit sanctions imposed by the United States and its Western allies against the principal fossil fuel-producing countries of the world, including Venezuela. She said that these sanctions represent a threat to global energy security.
“We advocate for a diplomacy of meeting and dialogue, such as the one we promote from OPEC+ and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum,” said the Venezuelan minister of Hydrocarbons in her virtual address to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum held in Russia.
“On behalf of Venezuela and President Nicolás Maduro Moros, we participated in the Energy Panel of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, where we reflected on the ways to guarantee energy security and a stable development in a multipolar world,” RodrĂguez wrote on social media, where she published a video of her address.
In the video, she explained that the vision of Venezuela and associated oil producing countries is respect for the “energy trilemma” to ensure security, accessibility, and climate commitment for the benefit of humanity.

She stressed that the most important principle is energy security, ensuring the investment required in fossil fuels that would ensure adequate supply, affordable prices, and production with the least possible environmental impact.
The Venezuelan vice president highlighted that these conditions are being violated and equality is seriously compromised “due to the imbalance that exists between the Global North and South.”
She said that these geopolitical conditions and illicit sanctions are responsible for attacking countries that account for 25% of the world’s daily oil and gas production.
“We want energy access for all countries, for all peoples,” she declared. “We hope that the peoples of Africa will also be able to participate in the innovative mechanisms, and we hope that the energy transition would constitute a real hope for humanity.”
