According to a press release published on Monday, May 5, by the Venezuelan Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the 5th Venezuelan Brigade of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People donated backpacks, school supplies, and soccer balls to refugee children and young people in Tindouf, Algeria.
The donation took place during a meeting with a representative of the Ministry of Education, Teaching and Vocational Training of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), regarding the development of various activities led by the Venezuelan Brigade.
Venezuelan Special Envoy Professor Luis Aparicio extended his congratulations and recognition to the SADR for achieving one of the goals of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 amid adversity.
Aparicio added that Venezuela admires the SADR’s educational processes and reaffirmed that Caracas wishes to explore avenues for exchanging experiences. He described the methodology as “the pedagogy of resistance” of a people determined to be free.
Education is the path to liberation
The secretary general of the African nation’s ministry, Mustafa Mohamed Fadi, reaffirmed that education and training are the only paths to the liberation of his people from oppression.
Venezuela and Sahrawi Arab Republic Sign Cooperation Agreements
Despite half a century of struggle for independence, the Sahrawi people enjoy free and inclusive education. This program has resulted in the refugee camps in Tindouf being declared illiteracy-free territories in 2024.
The education system in this region, located in eastern Algeria, is compulsory and covers elementary through secondary school. Students also have access to vocational training centers and several training areas at the University of Tifariti.
