Venezuelan Vice President Delcy RodrĂguez released a statement this Tuesday, March 4, outlining the position of the Maduro Administration regarding the resumption of illegal US sanctions against Chevronâs operations in Venezuela.
The full unofficial translation of the statement is below:
Venezuela activates Absolute Independence Plan in response to sanctions against Chevron
The new US government has succumbed to pressure from failed and defeated opposition sectors in Venezuela by imposing definitive sanctions on the US corporation Chevron.
Chevron has been operating oil fields in Venezuela for over a hundred years. Today, however, thanks to the Venezuelan extremist lobby, it has been forced to halt its operations in the country.
The new US government, seeking to harm the Venezuelan people, is ultimately harming itself by driving up oil prices and undermining the legal security of its companiesâ investments abroad. This calls into question the alleged and deceptive principle of economic freedom.
President NicolĂĄs Maduro has ordered the activation of the Absolute Productive Independence Plan to ensure that our hydrocarbon industry and the countryâs economy can continue their stable and diversified recovery.
Neither in the past nor now will the same failed and defeated opponents succeed in harming our country. A strong national awareness and unity will continue to guide the path toward economic recovery with social justice.
Let us declare loudly, from the heart of our people, with the liberator JosĂ© Gervasio Artigas: âLet us expect nothing but from ourselves.â
Nothing and no one will be able to deny the Venezuelan people their right to a future and happiness!
