The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, announced that the party will hold a general assembly to nominate candidates for the May 25 elections of the National Assembly and the state governorships and assemblies. The assembly will be held this coming Saturday, March 15, starting at 2:00 p.m.
“The nomination process will be done through the assembly method of the 47,553 communities of the PSUV, grassroots work that is nothing new, we have already done a lot,” Cabello stated at a press conference on Thursday, March 13. “Most of the communities are connected to our system for checking the postulations, alot of tests have already been made, which assures us that on Saturday we will be able to do everything nicely and very well.”
The community assemblies will be presided over by the community chief, who must notify the community members the place and time of the meeting.
An assembly will have three nomination processes, where each participant will be able to nominate up to five names with their respective positions:
In addition to this, representatives and delegates of Guayana Esequiba will be elected for the first time.
“Remember that in addition to the deputies of the National Assembly and legislators of the Legislative Councils, there will now be the legislators for the Legislative Council of our Guayana Esequiba,” Cabello emphasized. “The National Assembly deputies from Guayana Esequiba and the governor of Guayana Esequiba are going to be elected for the first time. This was done in consultation with our people, our people voted in that referendum, they ordered us and we comply with what our people say, as mandated by the Article 5 of this constitution, the recognition of the People’s Power.”
He added that all participants of the assembly will have the possibility to self-nominate. “You can nominate yourself, or you can present up to five names per position. You can nominate anyone who is there,” he stressed.

Other norms
Cabello explained that in principle, all PSUV supporters who are 15 years old or above, whether they are members of the PSUV or not, can participate in the assemblies.
All supporters of the parties of the Great Patriotic Pole coalition may also participate. “Anyone can participate, without any kind of pressure. No community should close a door on anyone. If someone from a party goes to the assembly, open the door and let the person participate on this beautiful day of unity of the social movements,” he urged.
Cabello stated that the assemblies are open to workers, women, peasants, commune members, and all residents of the communities.
“The doors are open for anyone who wants to participate, there are no restrictions of any nature,” he said. “It is an open and popular consultation, it must be a fraternal, inclusive, unitary process, a process of equals that contribute to the strengthening of the unity and morale of our people.”
He also allayed concerns about possible sabotage of the assemblies. “In the communities everybody knows everybody,” he emphasized. “The assemblies will also be held in the indigenous territories, following the norms of the indigenous communities, since our indigenous brothers and sisters have their own methods.”
