Venezuelan authorities are tightening security at the border checkpoints ahead of the May 25 elections.
According to a joint resolution between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace, strict control of the border zone willl start on Friday, May 23.
The resolution, published in the Official Gazette dated May 20, states that the measure will be executed by the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (CEOFANB).
The heightened control of the movement of people and vehicles by land, sea, and air in the border zones will be applied from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, May 23, until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 26.
The purpose of the joint resolution is to safeguard the inviolability of the borders and prevent activities of persons who may represent threats to the security of Venezuelans participating in the elections to elect state governors, National Assembly deputies, and state legislators on Sunday, May 25.
