The foreign affairs minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, informed the diplomatic corps accredited in the country that the Venezuelan far right had hired the organized criminal gangs Tren de Aragua and Tren del Llano to initiate a coup d’Ă©tat.
During a meeting with the diplomatic corps on Wednesday, August 21, Gil stated that the extreme right, backed by the US government, contracted the infamous gangs to generate post-electoral violence. He added that this coup model has been “designed by the CIA and the United States.”
“The evidence led us to believe that members of the gangs Tren de Aragua and Tren del Llano, whose structures were overall dismantled [by the Venezuelan security forces last year], were being hired by the opposition to start a coup d’Ă©tat,” the foreign minister said during the meeting held at the Casa Amarilla, the headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.
Minister Gil further reported that Attorney General Tarek William Saab has overwhelming evidence that prove that there is a campaign to overthrow the legitimate and constitutional government of President Nicolás Maduro.
US-Backed Opposition Pays Influencers US$400 Each to Attack Venezuela’s Democracy
Yván Gil explained that apart from the violent coup attempt in the country, there is also “an apparatus that has been deployed on social media” to promote the narrative of non recognition of the official results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which declared Nicolás Maduro as the winner with more than 52% of the votes polled on July 28.
He added that this far-right narrative of not recognizing the results is not backed by anything, because the opposition is not capable of gathering 5,000 people for a demonstration but claims to have obtained 8 million votes.
Likewise, he specified that a group of influencers, “paid by foreign agents,” started a campaign to incite a violent overthrow of the constitutional government of President Nicolás Maduro.
“The opposition does not recognize any State power, how can they aspire to have the recognition of the people, if they do not recognize any Venezuelan institution?” he questioned. “They tried to inflate the turnout at the rally and it backfired.”
He emphasized that Venezuela currently has peace and normality almost a month after the presidential elections. Therefore, he urged the diplomatic corps to pass this true situation to their governments.
“What reigns in the streets of Venezuela is absolute normality, like the normality we experienced prior to the electoral process,” said the foreign minister.
