Next week, the Venezuelan National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela, internationally know as El Sistema, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with the Vive El Sistema exhibition which will take place during February 12-16, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the iconic Teresa Carreño Theater in Caracas.
At the event, various kiosks and displays will inform the public about the organization’s academic programs, nuclei, history, and milestones since its founding in 1975 by maestro José Antonio Abreu.
Although the program has been around for decades, El Sistema reached its peak popularity during the first term of President Hugo Chávez, whose government provided financial support for El Sistema, allowing its musicians to perform concerts around the world.
Vive El Sistema will also offer live performances by the various musical groups for free.

The National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela is a social and cultural project of the Venezuelan state. This pedagogical, artistic, and social model promoted by the musician José Antonio Abreu has achieved great relevance in the world thanks to its systematization of the instruction and performance of music through symphony orchestras and choirs.
Despite illegal US sanctions and their negative effects on the Venezuelan economy, the renowned music program continues providing free music education to low-income young Venezuelans.
