The attorney general of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, reported that the Venezuelan Public Ministry (MP) has received 317,584 complaints of violence against women during 2017-2023. These complaints were received through the ministry offices as well as at squares, parks, and neighborhoods where the institution has organised events to receive complaints from citizens.
Saab explained that based on these complaints, “we have been able to prosecute and charge 74,037 individuals who have committed these crimes against women, and 62,392 accusations have been processed, of which 6,788 have been for convictions that become sentences.”
He also announced that the MP’s telephone line 0800-6853767 (0800-mujermp) is available to all women, mothers, homemakers, and all those involved in the women’s safety movements, as a direct reporting channel against gender-based violence. “It is totally safe and anonymous,” he said.

He further stated that for anyone who is a victim or is aware of cases of violence and abuse against women, “we have the Victim Assistance Unit, with prosecutors assigned for comprehensive attention to girls, adolescents and women, and to protect the dignity of this most vulnerable sector.”
This service is completely free and its main objective is to guide victims of gender-based crimes and to provide advice, support, information and education about their rights, in order to assist them to timely report for the criminal process to begin.
