On Monday, December 16, Venezuela’s Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) reported that between December 10 and 14, it requested the revision of 179 detentions connected to the post-electoral violence that affected Venezuela on July 29 and 30. The requests were subsequently approved by the Judiciary
The MP wrote in a statement that a total of 533 measures have been requested and agreed upon within the framework of due process guaranteed by the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
“The MP, along with the rest of the Venezuelan state institutions, reiterates its commitment to peace, justice, and human rights,” the statement added.
In November, Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab reported that 225 freedom measures were granted and carried out for individuals prosecuted for acts of violence recorded following the July 28 elections.
Attorney General Saab confirmed that the releases were granted due to the joint work of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary, stating that no non-governmental organization (NGO) can claim those releases as a result of their work.
