For the president of the National Assembly, Representative Jorge RodrĂguez, âwe all have a moral obligation to defend our homeland, our landââand also because it is a right. The parliamentarian emphasized these points after a meeting with the Executive Committee of the Council of State of the Nation, headed by President NicolĂĄs Maduro.
He reaffirmed that all public branches of the Republic are at the disposal of the National Executiveâs directives to continue defending Venezuelaâs sovereignty and stability.
RodrĂguez recalled that, while the 80th session of the UN is being held in New York City, dozens of nations are rejecting what he called âtragicomicââall the accusations that seek to frame Venezuela as a drug-producing nation.

‘The invention of lies’
âBut itâs also a hoax, because they talk about an epidemic, but the real epidemic is the one they have âproduced by opioids,ââ argued RodrĂguez, detailing that, from at least 2006 to 2012, 76 billion doses of this drug were administered to U.S. citizens âwho now swarm the streets of that countryâand they lied about the effects these medications have on consumers.â
He reiterated that âif the lies werenât so serious, they would be tragicomic and frivolous, which is why we are also obligated to defend Venezuelaâs good name.â
He also announced that Venezuela will resort to all multilateral forums to defend its sovereignty, integrity and independence. âWe will continue to debunk the lies to demonstrate that Venezuela is free of drug trafficking.â
RodrĂguez stated that political, legal and diplomatic efforts will be coordinated to denounce the aggression, lies and falsehoods directed against Venezuela.
The parliamentarian urged that the best way to defend sovereignty is from the streets and that âit is time for unity to defend peace without slavery.â
