On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro Moros, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil expressed the nation’s deep gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for supporting the request for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding the US military escalation against Venezuela.
Foreign Minister Gil called Iran’s support “crucial” in the pursuit of measures under the United Nations Charter to halt the growing military escalation in the Caribbean.
Iran emphasized that the US military escalation in the southern Caribbean “endangers Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the peace and stability of the entire region.”

On Thursday, October 9, Venezuela formally requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council in response to the grave escalation of aggression and the unprecedented military deployment by the United States in the Caribbean.
In this regard, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghai issued a warning about the repercussions of Washington’s “growing acts of illegality and aggressive unilateralism” for global peace and stability. Furthermore, he urged the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations to give immediate attention to the United States’ persistent insistence on illegally intervening in the internal affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, an independent member state of the United Nations.
