Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro reported that the ALBA Bank proposed activating a credit system for the productive reintegration of migrant entrepreneurs into local economies.
During his participation in the 12th Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), the president explained that this financing would start with $10 million.
“A revolving fund that would allow us to address part of this situation and turn the return of a large part of our brothers and sisters who had to emigrate due to economic sanctions, economic wars, inequality in terms of the economy, and the crisis of global capitalism into an opportunity to promote economic growth that is beneficial for our country,” said Maduro.
To date, 1.5 million Venezuelans out of the 2.5 million who left the country have returned to the country under the Return to the Homeland program.
Regarding those Venezuelans who are victims of criminal organizations, Maduro mentioned that in his recent conversations with the United States, he suggested the dismantling of these human trafficking groups, known as “coyotes,” and stated that they are “linked to the highest leadership of the extremist, corrupt, and gangster opposition that we have had in the last eight years.”
“The most important names in gangs are there, who have led the conspiracy against Venezuelan democracy. They have all enriched themselves hand over fist with these criminal organizations,” he stated.
Save CELAC
President Maduro also announced that he is working with the leaders of the countries that make up the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to save this organization of great importance to the region by holding an immediate political council of ALBA.
“In this way, [we] support the processes of defending sovereignty and peace in all of Latin America, in all of the Caribbean,” he emphasized.
Cuba’s Díaz-Canel
During the summit, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that unity among the nations of Latin America must be the key to confront the threats of Western countries. He described the meeting as very useful for nations to establish their priorities and discuss current and future challenges in the region.
The Cuban president mentioned that, hours after taking office, the US president reinstated the island to the arbitrary list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism without evidence, justification, or any respect for the truth. For this reason, he thanked the ALBA-TCP member states for condemning this decision and cooperating with Cuba.
However, he stressed that the issue in question is not only Cuba: “The entire region of Latin America and the Caribbean is under threat, and only with unity can we confront the articulation of the imperialist and oligarchic counteroffensive that his government promotes.”
Consolidate the Agro-Alba Project
Maduro urged ALBA-TCP leaders to adopt advanced concepts of agriculture based on the use of agroecology and organic food production within the framework of implementing agroecological regenerative agriculture techniques.
“This is an issue that we are insisting on, fellow presidents, fellow prime ministers… for the production of food for the self-sufficiency of all ALBA-TCP countries and to reach the point where, together, we will produce and export organic food,” he said.
In this regard, he reported on the Agro-Alba 2025 International Fair for the exchange of productive investment experiences and new businesses in the development of productive capacities in the region’s countries.
Technological advances
Finally, President Maduro announced the establishment of a Science and Technology Center for Artificial Intelligence and Free Technologies of the ALBA-TCP.
“It is proposed that we jointly establish and install [the center]… and that we integrate all the progress initiatives that each of our countries and scientific institutions have been advancing to make a quantum leap in multifaceted and comprehensive development,” said Maduro.
