As protests in support of Palestinians swell across the globe, Israel’s western backers say they have ‘no evidence’ to end military collaboration
Anti-genocide protesters clashed with Mexican riot police outside the Israeli embassy in Mexico City on 28 May during a rally in support of Palestinians in Rafah.
The clashes reportedly started after some protesters sought to break down barriers preventing them from reaching the Israeli diplomatic mission. As tensions rose, masked protesters pelted the embassy with rocks and Molotov cocktails and urged the security forces to “stop defending the genociders.”

Riot police deployed tear gas and threw back the stones at the crowd. The confrontations left about six police officers injured and set fire to the embassy’s entrance.
The protest came just hours after the Mexican government announced it had filed a “declaration of intervention” in the case brought by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
In its declaration, Mexico says it “seeks to intervene in order to provide its view on the potential construction of the content of the provisions of the convention relevant to this case.” The government statement also said that “the deliberate obstruction of access to humanitarian assistance” and the “destruction of cultural heritage” should also be used as elements in the case.
Brazil Officially Withdraws Ambassador from ‘Israel’ (Genocide)
Despite this recent decision, the government of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has kept a moderate position on the Israeli genocide in Gaza, in stark contrast to other leftist governments across Latin America.
Global outrage boiled over following Israel’s mass murder of hundreds of civilians in Gaza over the weekend, as tens of thousands across several western cities marched, demanding an end to their government’s complicity in genocide.

Nevertheless, Israel has remained unmoved by the world’s support for the Palestinians, as troops have continued to push deeper into Rafah, massacring more civilians in their way. Similarly, the US government has made it clear that the Rafah onslaught does not constitute a “red line” to cut military support for Israel.
