The Colombian paramilitary group Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra Nevada (ACSN) requested a meeting with the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, to present evidence of the right-wing plots to destabilize Venezuela amid the upcoming July 28 presidential elections.
The ACSN issued a statement on Saturday, July 6, asking Colombian President Gustavo Petro to arrange for direct contact between Venezuelan authorities and the armed group, allowing the latter to provide evidence of the Venezuelan far-right’s plans to sow terror before and after the July 28 elections.
The statement also highlighted the importance of sharing information with the Venezuelan and Colombian authorities about Venezuelan right-wing groups looking for the paramilitary organization to cause harm to the democratic system in Venezuela.
“We want them to know first-hand the situation that arose with groups from the neighboring country [Venezuela] that sought our influence to alter the democratic system,” the text said.

The Colombian paramilitaries added that they have a moral obligation to provide information so that action can be taken, and stressed their respect for the Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination, democracy and peace.
In this regard, they have called for the appropriate legal proceedings to be initiated to guarantee the safety and well-being of the affected communities.
The paramilitaries reiterated their willingness to collaborate with the authorities of both countries to achieve an environment of peace and stability in the region.
“We reiterate that this act of peace is based on respect for the electoral processes and democracy in Venezuela so that real peace can be built and violence can be ended for the welfare of the people we protect and of our neighbors, who also have the right to self-determination,” the statement said in this regard.
On Friday, July 5, the ACSN announced that its units in the department of La Guajira had been contacted by Venezuelan far-right groups, asking for the ACSN’s assistance to destabilize Venezuela before and after the upcoming presidential elections.
Following this revelation, President Nicolás Maduro asked the Public Ministry to initiate investigations into the complaint.
According to information from the paramilitary group, the Venezuelan far-right groups asked ACSN to send around 1,000 paramilitary members to Venezuela to generate violence and chaos, attack the Venezuelan electrical grid, and create the ambience of a civil war after the election.
