Mousavi called Pompeo’s accusations of Iran’s alleged meddling in Venezuelan affairs ‘ridiculous’, while maintaining his country’s support for a peaceful settlement, absent of foreign intervention.
“Donald Trump’s U.S. wants to turn Latin America into its backyard like it was in the 19th century,” Mousavi said, adding that the Trump administration was “oblivious to the fact that the nations have awoken and the wheel of time does not move back.”
Mousavi said Iranian experts are aiding Venezuela in improving their water and electrical systems, per the request of the government of President Nicolas Maduro.

He pointed out that while Iran is helping Venezuela to improve their country, the U.S. has looted US$30 billion in currency reserves.
The Iranian official said the U.S. is urging people to either rise up against the government or starve.
“The US move is a flagrant case of interference in Venezuela’s domestic affairs and it is doomed,” Mousavi added.
