Highlighting that the government of Guyana has entered into a warmongering spiral against Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro requested the immediate convention of a meeting in the framework of the Argyle Agreement. This meeting would aim to demonstrate how his Guyanese counterpart, Irfaan Ali, is violating international law in the Essequibo dispute.
“I have requested an immediate meeting of the Argyle Agreement to demonstrate to Irfaan Ali, face to face, how he is violating international laws in the controversy,” he said during his program Con Maduro Live de Repente on Thursday, March 6. “One cannot dispose of an undelimited maritime zone in an illegal, abusive manner, disregarding international law and the rights of Venezuela.”
“Nothing good can be expected from the government of Guyana,” he added. “The entire political structure of that country is corrupt and is part of the [imperialist] plans of provocation against Venezuela.”
Irfaan Ali, the Caribbean Zelensky
Given the Guyanese president’s warlike stance against Venezuela, President Maduro branded him the Caribbean Zelensky.
Maduro urged Ali to rectify himself immediately—stop provoking Venezuela, stop violating international laws, and sit down to talk with him face to face.
Bolivarian peace dipolomacy
“Ali has taken a completely wrong path. Whoever supports him in his war plan is sinking the peace of the continent,” said President Maduro, emphasizing that Venezuela will resolve this issue with Bolivarian peace diplomacy and patriotism with the civic-military-police union.
“The dispute with Guyana is pending. We have everything to gain because we have the original documents of being the owners of the Essequibo,” he said.
He explained that Essequibo had been part of the Venezuelan Guayana region since the Captaincy General of Venezuela was established in 1777. The territory was not given to Venezuela as a gift by an empire but was conquered with the liberating sword of SimĂłn BolĂvar. Therefore, Venezuela is taking this claim through diplomatic channels, backed by the Geneva Agreement of 1966.
Defense of Venezuelan sovereignty
In this context, President Maduro emphasized that the revolutionary government is ready to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty, honor, and historical rights. He reiterated that the hatred and lies of fascism will not be able to defeat the nation.
