The president of Venezuela president, Nicolás Maduro, has made statements regarding the results of the recent US presidential elections that have put Donald Trump back in the White House. “I hope Trump ends all the wars the US is involved in,” he commented, adding that “Venezuela has its own identity and history, and shares values with the people of the US, one of those values being that we say no to war.”
President Maduro hoped that this time, there would be an improvement in relations between the governments of both countries, for which he once again extended his sincere hand. “During [Trump’s] first government, things did not go well for us,” he noted during the recording of his podcast Maduro Live de Repente this Wednesday, November 6. “This is a new beginning,” he added, stating that “Venezuela is open for joint working relations with anyone who wants to come, and anyone who respects us.”
He stated that the Bolivarian Revolution has already watched several presidents come and go through the White House, “and we have always been willing to have relations of dialogue and respect,” and “to have relations of respect, common sense, dialogue, and respect for sovereignty with all the countries of Latin America.”
When asked about his preference for who he wanted to see in the White House, Maduro avoided “interfering in the internal affairs of the US, I will never do that. We do not practice interventionism.”
“We do not believe that one candidate or another favors Venezuela or not,” the head of state said. “The solutions for Latin American issues are in Latin America, and the solutions for Venezuelan issues are in Venezuela,” he explained. “We must start win-win relations, so that the history of humanity can turn out differently.”
