The government of Venezuela sent more than 300 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba that has been hit by two intense tropical storms, Hurricane Oscar and Hurricane Rafael, in less than two weeks.
“We are sending more than 300 tons of aid that have been collected by the people of Venezuela to support and send a message of solidarity to our sister Republic of Cuba,” expressed the foreign minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, while supervising the loading of aid at the docks of the Carabobo port on Wednesday, November 6.
The minister explained that Cuba has been the victim of two hurricanes recently. “Currently it is experiencing Hurricane Rafael, which passed through the center of Cuba, and a week ago, Hurricane Oscar, which caused significant damage.”
He noted that due to the Cuban government’s civil protection system, greater damage had been avoided. “However, Venezuela expresses its solidarity and mutual cooperation,” he added.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Dagoberto Rodríguez, expressed the gratitude of his government and the Cuban people for the Venezuelan aid. “We thank the people of Venezuela for this generous, noble gesture, for the long-standing culture of solidarity between our nations,” he stated.
He added that the aid will help mitigate the damages resulting from the hurricanes and torrential rains that have affected families all over Cuba. “Love is repaid with love,” he said.
