The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham al-Ghais, at La Casona Cultural Aquiles Nazoa in Caracas
A hug and handshake between the Venezuelan head of state and the OPEC representative marked the beginning of the meeting held this Tuesday, October 8. As a gesture of gratitude, the Venezuelan president expressed his joy with a greeting used in the Arab world: “As-Salaamu-Alaikum,” a way of wishing someone peace and well-being, reported Prensa Presidencial on its website.
The meeting took place after al-Ghais held a meeting on Monday with the Vice President and Minister of Petroleum, Delcy Rodríguez, within the framework of an agenda that has included the participation of both authorities in the Assembly of Oil, Petrochemical and Gas Workers, with the aim of strengthening their joint work with the international organization.
Vice President Rodríguez and the OPEC representative have met to assess issues related to the international energy market, among other points on the working agenda.

In the meeting, President Maduro was accompanied by his wife, Deputy Cilia Flores; the president of PDVSA, Héctor Obregón; the Vice Minister of Integration and International Affairs of PDVSA, Eduardo Ramírez; and the vice president of international affairs of the state oil company, Ronny Romero.
