In another act of participatory and democratic engagement, the Venezuelan people nominated their candidates for the municipal elections to be held on July 27, according to the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
“In grassroots assemblies, youth, grandmothers, grandfathers and neighbors joyfully nominate their candidates for mayor and municipal council,” the head of state posted on social media.
This Saturday, June 7, organized People’s Power responded to the call issued by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in more than 47,000 communities across the country to hold assemblies, where the people, as protagonists, will decide who their candidates will be for the upcoming elections.
On June 4, the National Electoral Council set the date for the election of mayors and municipal council members for July 27. It released the electoral schedule for the various political parties to follow, with the date for the nomination of candidates set for June 9-13.
On Saturday night, the PSUV’s vice president of organization, Pedro Infante, reported that more than 80% of communities had already registered the candidates nominated in the more than 47,000 assemblies that took place throughout the country.
“Currently we have reports that more than 80% of communities have entered the nominees into the CC200 system. We’re talking about tens of thousands of nominations for mayors and municipal council members,” he said during a telephone interview with Venezuelan Television, while reviewing the nomination assembly process that occurred nationwide.

Regarding the process, he gave special recognition to women and youth who participated massively in this grassroots consultation. “Many women, many young people, workers, and community leaders participated. This confirms that it’s the people who decide and determine who our leaders should be to guide municipal governments and councils,” he said.
