Venezuelan minister for the Interior, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, stated that Venezuela is currently the Latin American country with the lowest number of homicides in the region, with “less than three homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.”
“This year Venezuela has recorded less than three homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. Ecuador, on the other hand, has registered 64 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, but has issued a statement to its inhabitants alerting them not to come to Venezuela because of insecurity,” he stated during his weekly podcast with National Assembly Deputy Tania DĂaz, Sin truco ni maña, on Friday, June 6.
Petare is peaceful
Cabello expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful climate of the Petare parish of the Sucre municipality, Miranda state. He called this situation a consequence of the “perfect civil-military-police union” that prevails in that area.
“Petare was a stigmatized locality,” he said. “In addition to the fact that Petare is the most populated neighborhood in Latin America, there was also the narrative that it was the most violent, without evidence of any kind. Surely there was a crime problem, but it is under control at the moment. We continue to work in perfect civil-military-police union.”
