On Wednesday, the vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, reported on activities the party is carrying out in view of the party congress scheduled to be held from February 4-6.
During a national videoconference of the PSUV regarding special guidelines for the upcoming congress, Cabello announced that fundamental topics will be discussed, among them the method of selecting candidates for the elections of April 27.
He emphasized that the PSUV must be adequately prepared for the elections called by the National Electoral Council. “The United Socialist Party of Venezuela must be adequately prepared. This will become a new fundamental task of the congress that we are calling for on the 4th, 5th, and 6th of February,” he said.
“On the 4th, we have the activities for the anniversary of February 4th, but we will add to that the call for this congress that will have, among other fundamental tasks, [determining] the method of selection of the PSUV candidates for the elections of April 27, 2025. The United Socialist Party of Venezuela is one of the significant components of the Great Patriotic Pole, and we defined the method established in our Red Book, which is where we fine-tuned the details.”
Cabello added that an inclusive proposal will be made “that is capable of considering local leaderships, emerging leaderships, new faces, new figures, for these elected positions.” He also clarified that the PSUV will always make recommendations in accordance with the opinion of the party’s supporters.
Another issue that is being considered for the congress agenda is the party’s relation to the organization of communal political councils. “Regarding the communal circuits, the Red Book not only allows, but also mandates, once the communes are formed, the formation of communal political councils, and the country is moving towards a new form of government where the communal system, with our organized communities, will be fundamental, and the party must have a presence in each one of these communal circuits,” said Cabello.
He also specified that the PSUV’s focus is on the organization and functioning of the historical block. “One of the calls that the president has made is for the constitution of a great historical block, where the five generations, the seven forces, converge in the face of the seven transformations.”
Participants in the congress
Participants include the regional and sectoral delegates of the PSUV and the youth of the party, the national leadership of both segments, the National Political Council, the heads of the State Councils, and the coordinators of Agitation, Propaganda, and Communication (APC), as well as special guests.
“From there, a formula will emerge, a proposal from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela based on the broadest debate of inclusion, of presenting the best proposals and flexible methods that will allow a great victory on April 27th. The proposal will be defined at the congress,” said Cabello.
Cabello indicated that, so far, more than 2,200 people have been summoned to the congress; this figure does not include special guests.
