The Venezuelan Public Ministry announced the initiation of a criminal investigating against María Corina Machado “for her promotion and support of the recent criminal act of the United States House of Representatives that approved the BOLIVAR Act. This imperialist legislation seeks to amplify the illegal sanctions against the Venezuelan people.”
The public statements made by the far-right politician María Corina Machado regarding this illegal sanctions law “seriously implicate her and constitute the commission of the crimes of treason, established in article 128 of the Penal Code,” reads the Public Ministry statement issued on Friday, November 22.
The illegal US sanctions law also “intends to tarnish the name of our Liberator Simón Bolívar, seriously violating the Constitution, the laws and the sovereignty of the country,” the statement added.

In January, the Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice dismissed Machado’s appeal against her political disqualification which had been imposed on her by the Comptroller General’s Office due to treason.
The reasons for that TSJ ruling were:
- Machado engaged in the corruption plot orchestrated by the usurper Juan Guaidó, who promoted the criminal blockade of Venezuela.
- She supported the US-led seizure of Venezuelan assets abroad, including the CITGO Refineries in the US, for which Venezuela lost $32.5 billion.
- She supported the seizure of Monómeros in Colombia, which was returned in a state of bankruptcy to Venezuela after Gustavo Petro became the president of Colombia.
- She supported the illegal retention of 31 tons of gold by the Bank of England.
- She supported the freezing of $4 billion worth of Venezuelan assets in the international financial system.
- She asked for sanctions that prevented the purchase of medication for 60,000 HIV patients.
- She accepted the position of “alternate ambassador” of Panama at the Organization of American States in order to ask for a military invasion of Venezuela.
The far-right Venezuelan politician has been involved in other questionable practices, such as running the NGO Súmate funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). She was an active organizer of the violent opposition riots of 2014, know as La Salida. She openly called for sanctions against Venezuela and subtly for foreign military intervention of her country while supporting the failed US regime change operation using Juan Guaidó.
Deputy Iris Varela: María Corina Machado’s Assets Must Be Confiscated
Unofficial translation of the Venezuelan Public Ministry statement is provided below:
The Public Ministry informs the country that as part of the recent criminal acts committed by the United States House of Representatives, on the occasion of the approval of a bill, which seeks to amplify the illegal sanctions against the Venezuelan people, and intends to tarnish the name of our Liberator Simón Bolívar, seriously violating the Constitution, the Laws and Sovereignty: attending to these facts where sectors of the extreme right led by María Corina Machado and others have expressed their support for these sanctions, it has been decided to initiate an investigation against the aforementioned person, to charge her for her promotion and support of the aforementioned legal monstrosity that sponsors terrible criminal acts against the Venezuelan people.
The public statements that the accused has made regarding this illegal act seriously implicate her and constitute the commission of the crimes of treason, established in article 128 of the Penal Code; conspiracy with foreign countries, established in article 132 of the Penal Code, and criminal association, established in article 37 of the Law against Organized Crime.
The Public Ministry, as director of criminal investigations and as an organ of Citizen Power that guarantees the faithful tradition of freedom, peace, independence, and sovereignty that characterizes our Republic, remains firm in its duty to guarantee justice and in its fight against any individual, group or national or international entity that threatens the stability of the country.
