This Friday, May 3, Venezuelans took to Bolívar Chávez Square in La Guaira to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the defeat of the attempted terrorist and mercenary incursion known as Operation Gideon.
The ceremony commemorated the successful Operation Negro Primero, which deployed against armed mercenaries that illegally entered the Venezuelan territory by sea to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro and other senior government officials. The operation was facilitated by the same far-right opposition forces currently running for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for July 28 with the financial and logistic support of the US government.
During the commemoration, Vargas municipality Mayor José Manuel Suárez recalled that the civic-military-police union made it possible to counteract the intruders. He pointed out that the Venezuelan people are united and will defend the homeland alongside President Maduro against aggression from the US empire.

“Without the people, we are nothing. And even more so in this successful Operation Negro Primero, which represents the honor this lesson gives us. The military, police and the people in the civic-military-police union gave us an example of courage and struggle for the homeland,” said the Municipal Liaison of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) La Guaira state.
The Venezuelan military was key to thwarting the mercenary invasion launched from Colombian soil and directly supported by the CIA and the DEA. Two US mercenaries, Luke Denman and Airan Berry, were captured and sentenced for terrorism as part of Operation Negro Primero. Both individuals were recently released in exchange for the liberation of the Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab by the US regime.
President Maduro: Venezuela is a territory of peace
On Friday, President Nicolás Maduro discussed how the civil-military-police union defeated the group of mercenaries who intended to assassinate him and end the peace of the country.
“Four years ago, the joint Operation Negro Primero, in a civic-military-police union, crushed a group of mercenaries and terrorists who tried to invade Venezuela with the aim of ending my life. But the people did not let them. They went out to Puerto Cruz Beach, La Guaira state, to fight and defend our territory, ensuring national tranquility. Venezuela is a territory of Peace!” President Maduro wrote on social media.
One Year after Defeat of Operation Gideon, Heroism of Chuao’s Militia Recognized
The so-called Operation Gideon aimed to generate violence and attack members of the Venezuelan government. However, it was thwarted by the people in a civic-military-police union on the coasts of Aragua and La Guaira state.
The terrorist operation was sponsored by the United States government, with the operational support of the Colombian government, then led by Ivan Duque, and the consent of former Deputy Juan Guaidó.
