On Monday, Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello announced the immediate suspension of flights from Colombia after a far-right, terrorist plot against Venezuela was uncovered ahead of the May 25 elections.
Speaking to the press, Cabello reported on the arrest of 38 people linked to the attack. The plot aimed to destabilize Venezuela by placing explosives in embassies, police stations, hospitals, healthcare centers, public service facilities, transportation hubs, gas stations, and electricity stations.
The individuals captured include 17 foreigners and 21 Venezuelans who entered the country from Colombia—some via border crossings and others on commercial flights. According to the report, these individuals arrived in Colombia from other countries before traveling to Venezuela.
“We have ordered the immediate suspension of all flights from Colombia to Venezuela, as the intelligence we possess relates directly to this pattern of movement,” stated Cabello.
Cabello emphasized that earlier efforts targeted mercenaries regardless of language, but extremists now recruit Spanish-speaking operatives who “enter Venezuela disguised as ordinary tourists with clear objectives.”
Cabello also confirmed that opposition far-right politician María Corina Machado and fugitive Iván Simonovis orchestrated this new terrorist conspiracy.
The suspension of flights will remain in place beyond the elections, added Cabello, due to the evidence gathered by security and intelligence agencies.
