A terrorist attack against the National Electric System (SEN) has been reported in Venezuela, resulting in a failure in the electrical services of Caracas and several cities across the country, according to reports from the newly appointed minister of the interior, justice, and peace, Diosdado Cabello.
In the evening of this Tuesday, August 27, a partial power outage was reported in several areas of Caracas, as well as in a number of other cities in Venezuela. In most cases, repairs were able to be made and electricity restored within four hours.
In a telephone conversation with the state channel, Cabello confirmed that the attack took place at 7:16 pm (Caracas time) on Tuesday, “carried out against the National Electric System, located on line 765, which runs from Valle de la Pascua (Guárico state) to Valencia (Carabobo state) and has affected the states of Táchira, Mérida, Barinas, Zulia, Falcón, Nueva Esparta, and partially sectors of La Guaira, Miranda, and Caracas.”
Cabello condemned the fact that this is one of the strategies used by the destabilizing sectors of Venezuela linked to the far-right opposition—which he referred to as “enemies of the people”—to try to harm Venezuelans.
He explained that they attacked a transmission tower, and that the location of the attack had already been identified, after which the system was stabilized and the electrical service was able to be restored.
He said that this type of attack is an unfortunately frequent tactic utilized by these far-right opposition sectors, who do not want peace or progress in the country.

Minister Cabello also guaranteed that the Venezuelan government will find those responsible for this “new criminal terrorist attack,” warning that the response against those who are attacking the services of the people will be forceful.
“We ask our people for patience and trust,” he added during the telephone interview. “The revolutionary government will once again come forward to solve the problem and find those responsible for this new criminal terrorist attack.”
In 2019, a nationwide electricity blackout affected Venezuela for several days, caused by a cyberattack to the computer servers of the electricity company CORPOELEC. That year, a massive US-led imperial regime change operation was launched using former deputy Juan Guaidó in attempts to install a fictitious puppet government, alongside a battery of illegal sanctions that heavily damaged the Venezuelan economy.
