Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab reported that the Venezuelan judiciary has granted 200 release orders for those being prosecuted for post-electoral violence from July 29 to 30.
On Friday, December 20, Attorney General Saab issued a statement detailing that between Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20, the 200 measures were granted to defendants.
He added that with these new measures approved, a total of 733 detainees involved in post-electoral violence cases have been released from prison.
“The Attorney General’s Office, in a coordinated manner inspired by the principle of collaboration among public powers mandated in Article 136 of the Constitution, will continue the exhaustive review of these cases in the coming hours in defense of peace, justice, and human rights,” concluded the statement.
On December 16, the Attorney General’s Office announced the review of 179 measures for those prosecuted for post-electoral violence.
On several occasions, the attorney general has stated that no NGO can claim any credit for these releases since they have been achieved as part of the joint work of the Attorney General’s Office and the Judiciary.
These reviews are carried out in compliance with the orders of President Nicolás Maduro to conduct a review of all the case files of those who were allegedly involved in the acts of violence that took place after the July 28 presidential elections.
The violence promoted by the extreme right after the elections left a toll of 28 dead, 190 injured, and damage to at least 500 public institutions.

Argentinian embassy circus collapsing
On Friday, it was reported that opposition leader Fernando Martínez Mottola left the Argentinean embassy in Caracas and appeared before the Attorney General’s Office. Since March, Martínez Mottola had been hiding in the Argentinian embassy alongside five other far-right politicians also wanted by the judiciary.
It was further reported that the politician is currently at home with his family after “complicated days” in the embassy. There is an arrest warrant against the politician, and the case against him will continue.
However, far-right politician María Corina Machado’s right hands Magalli Meda, Pedro Urruchurtu, Claudia Macero, Humberto Villalobos, and former Deputy Omar González are still hiding in the Argentinian embassy. All of them are accused of orchestrating destabilization plans in Barinas state in relation to the July 28 presidential elections.
