Venezuelans Begin Collection of Signatures Against Interventionist Threats From the US (images)

February 7, 2019

The Venezuelan people began collecting signatures on Wednesday to demand that the United States government (US) cease its interventionist actions against the country, withdraw its intervention threats and urged it to respect the constitutionality, the legality, sovereignty and independence of the Bolivarian Government. In Caracas, this collection of signatures has the Plaza Bolívar as its main venue, but in the course of days they will be enabling more venues in different areas of the Venezuelan capital, said the mayor of the Libertador municipality, Erika Farías.

For this reason, she called on the Revolutionary Forces and “el poder popular” (communes, communal councils) to go to each of the  authorized locations and sign for the fatherland, peace and in support of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

“Let us turn out all the nationalist forces, patriots, men and women who love our country and who fight to remain free”, said Farías.

He explained that the signature collection is preceded by a letter from President Nicolás Maduro, to send a message of peace, of love, of joy, a call for life and respect for the American people and their government.

“We will collect millions of signatures that will be delivered to the US government and its people,” added.

For his part, the executive secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv), Eduardo Piñate, said that Venezuelans will display  dignity, while reaffirming their willingness to defend national peace.

“We reject the interference, the aggression of imperialism and we choose to defend sovereignty, Bolivarian democracy and our project of Bolivarian and Chavista socialism of the 21st century,” he added.

Piñate also highlighted the support given by leaders, organizations and social movements of the world to the head of state, as well as his absolute rejection of the coup maneuvers that are taking place in Venezuela.

On Monday, February 4, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, called on Venezuelans to collect at least 10 million signatures as of Wednesday in repudiation of the government’s interventionist threats.

Orinoco Tribune operates without any advertising. We are not funded by any governments, think tanks, or large institutions. Our operations are entirely funded by readers like you. Our most generous donors have been targeted by the US for supporting socialist causes or are financially struggling. As a result, their accounts have been frozen, cutting off a significant revenue stream and severely threatening the sustainability of Orinoco Tribune.

We urge our readers and supporters, especially those not currently doing so, to help us with small donation (such as US $5 or $10/month) via Patreon, via Paypal/Credit-Card/crypto or via paper checks. Readers and supporters like you will allow us to continue bringing you progressive and hard-hitting news from Latin America, the Global South, and the world.

Help us reach our goal of $650 in monthly Patreon donations. We are counting on you as our only source of financial support!
