On Thursday, April 17, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil condemned a statement issued by the Ecuadorian government accusing Venezuela of allegedly stealing unused ballot papers during its presidential elections.
“Now it turns out that, in the face of accusations that have exposed the rottenness of the mafia that wants to rule Ecuador—the same one that steals democracy, persecutes the people, and sells sovereignty to the highest bidder—they come up with this sad and laughable statement to divert attention,” Gil wrote on social media.
Gil pointed out that the Ecuadorian government wants to make people believe its electoral failure and moral defeat can be covered up with diplomatic lies. “No, gentlemen! The world already sees you for what you are: an illegitimate, gangster, and lying government.”
“That Nazi government, traitor to the legacy of the Liberator SimĂłn BolĂvar, the immense example of Manuelita Sáenz, the honor of Marshal Sucre, and the admirable General Eloy Alfaro, today grovels before a mafia that promotes fascism and political persecution. What a level of decadence!” he added.

Finally, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy criticized the statement’s drafting. “This statement is so crude, so poorly constructed, that it seems written by a frustrated screenwriter. If only they had told good stories… But they cannot even do that.”
