Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) announced the results of the elections held on Sunday to elect representatives of Indigenous peoples to the country’s National Assembly and Legislative Councils.
A communiquĂ© issued this Monday, June 2, by the nation’s electoral authority stated that Yesenia González, representing the Guaicaipuro Chair Organization, received the most votes in the Southern Region, comprising Amazonas and Apure states.
Pedro Requena, representing the Venezuelan National Indigenous Council, was elected in the Eastern Region, made up of the states of Anzoátegui, BolĂvar, Delta Amacuro, Monagas, Sucre, and Guayana Esequiba.

Meanwhile, Arly González, also from the Venezuelan National Indigenous Council, won in the Western Region, which includes the states of Zulia, Mérida, and Trujillo.
The document specified that the process unfolded “with great civility and deepening of democracy, serving as an example for the world.” CNE rectors congratulated those elected and the indigenous peoples’ organizations. It noted that in each state with indigenous communities, legislators for legislative councils were also elected and proclaimed Monday.
The governing body of Venezuela’s electoral council stated that voting was conducted according to the Venezuelan Constitution and laws.
In a phone call to Venezolana de TelevisiĂłn, CNE Vice President Carlos Quintero revealed that Sunday’s participation reached 97% of spokespeople elected last April in 4,071 ancestral communities where 6,453 men and women were chosen.
Quintero explained that the three winners will join parliament for the 2026-2031 period, completing the National Assembly’s 285 deputies.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro celebrated the mobilization of Venezuela’s ancestral peoples to elect their representatives to the Legislative Power.
On social media, the head of state highlighted the “unrestricted support of the Electoral Power” for these elections, as well as respect for their “methods and formats.” However, many analysts in Venezuela, from both sides of the political spectrum, have been questioning in recent months the inability of the electoral authority to provide detailed results not only for the recent May 25 elections but also for the July 28, 2024, presidential elections.
On Sunday, 6,451 people from Indigenous communities voted at 95 enabled voting centers with 188 polling stations.
