Venezuela’s Public Prosecutor’s Office will summon the former presidential candidate, Edmundo González, regarding the creation of a website intended to take over the functions of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
This was reported on Friday, August 23, by Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab. He said that this action is part of the investigation the prosecutor’s office is conducting regarding the far-right’s electoral crimes following the presidential election of July 28.
“He must attend this hearing to speak about his responsibility on July 28, during July 28, and after July 28 for his contumacy and disobedience to the legitimately constituted authorities,” Saab stated during a press conference at the Public Ministry headquarters.
He confirmed the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s support for the electoral chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice’s (TSJ) ruling that certified the results issued by the National Electoral Council on July 28. After an expert investigation, President Nicolás Maduro was confirmed to be re-elected as president of Venezuela for the 2025-2031 term.

Saab repudiated the statements made by other nations against Venezuela due to decisions made by the country’s institutions, contravening basic international law principles.
“Venezuela should be respected. These nations are violating international law, creating an important reference for the world’s democracies, where Venezuela has been an example of respect, noninterference, and self-determination of peoples,” he added.
