Venezuelan Polling Firm Chief Dismantles María Corina Machado’s Narrative of Massive Support for Opposition Candidate

June 7, 2024

The president of the Venezuelan polling firm Datanálisis, Luis Vicente León, dismantled María Corina Machado’s narrative about massive mobilizations in support of the opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia. In an interview on Wednesday, June 5, he said that the marches in support of Machado “are not even a shadow” of the rallies headed by Henrique Capriles in 2012, and even then Capriles was defeated by Hugo Chávez in the presidential elections of 2012.

The economist added that Machado’s narrative “hurts political extremism,” since it is a strategy to make the opposition sector around Machado believe that Edmundo González is supported by a majority of the population, which Luis Vicente León called “a rotten lie.”

A campaign of lies and interference
Previously, the leader of Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT) party, Stalin González, called out María Corina Machado for “deceitful practices.” He stated that “we must stop deceiving the people.”

Venezuela’s PSUV Urges Opposition to Sign Agreement to Recognize Electoral Results

On multiple occasions, María Corina Machado has presented herself as the presidential candidate of the opposition, claiming that she would win the elections, despite the fact that her disqualification was ratified by the Supreme Court of Venezuela, and that Edmundo González is the real candidate of the  far-right coalition Unitary Platform (PUD).

Machado has also manifested her submission to the United States government, as her secret plots with Washington have come to light, such as receiving a bribe of $3.2 million to hand over PDVSA to the US.
