Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez arrived in Shanghai, the financial hub of China, as part of her official tour to the People’s Republic of China to strengthen cooperative relations ahead of the China CELAC summit scheduled for May 12.
“We’ve arrived in Shanghai, a center of technological innovation and the main financial hub of the People’s Republic of China, as well as a model and benchmark for economic development,” the vice president wrote this Sunday, April 27, on social media.
Vice President Rodríguez was received at Shanghai Pudong International Airport by a delegation from the Asian nation’s government and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government.
The senior official added that “in this city, we will further deepen our close, mutually beneficial cooperation with China and explore new opportunities for exchanges for the benefit of our peoples.”
The Venezuelan delegation accompanying Rodríguez is made up of the Venezuelan ambassador to China, Remigio Ceballos; the Venezuelan consul general in shanghai, Atilio Villasmil; the minister of foreign trade, Coromoto Godoy; and the president of the country brand institute, Daniela Cabello.
Venezuela and China have signed various cooperation agreements in multiple areas. Even at the Shanghai Trade Fair held in November 2024, Venezuela reached its first agreement with investors. Furthermore, the objective of this official visit to Shanghai is to deepen cooperation as a center of technological innovation and a major Asian financial hub.
Delcy Rodríguez, arrived in Beijing, China, on April 23 to fulfill “a work agenda within the all-weather strategic partnership, signed in September 2023 by Presidents Nicolás Maduro and Xi Jinping.”
On April 24, the senior official held a meeting with her Chinese counterpart, Han Zheng, to review the bilateral agenda and strengthen cooperation within the framework of the strategic partnership.
Venezuela’s Vice President in Beijing Ahead of China-CELAC Summit
Rodríguez was received by her Chinese counterpart at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where both leaders expressed their commitment to cooperating and moving forward together in the face of the challenges of a new world freeing itself from hegemony.
She toured the facilities of the Chinese company iFlytek, located in Beijing, with the aim of expanding cooperation ties in the area of artificial intelligence, to be used in the energy, health, and education sectors, highlighting that “only China can guarantee that the Global South has access to artificial intelligence for development and not for domination,” while touring this leading company in the field of voice technology and AI, together with the Venezuelan delegation.
