Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro activated the Communal Militia Units in the country’s 5,336 communal circuits in response to the growing interventionist threats from the United States.
Launching the first activation cycle of the militia on Friday, September 5, President Maduro announced, “Today is the first day of the operational organizational activation of the entire Bolivarian National Militia, formed by the citizens who enlisted in the first two enlistment drives.”
The president led the event in the Simón Bolívar Hall of the Bolivarian Military University in Caracas. He was accompanied by high-ranking government officials, including Minister of Defense Major General Vladimir Padrino López; the strategic operational commander of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), Major General Domingo Hernández Lares; and the general commander of the Bolivarian Militia, Major General Orlando Ramón Romero Bolívar.
In his speech, the president spoke about the opening of the Permanent Enlistment System (SAP), stating that it is going “very well,” highlighting the possibility for Venezuelans to now join the national defense system. He added that it constitutes the first step that Venezuelan authorities have taken to address the escalation of interventionist threats from the United States.
In this regard, he emphasized that the Organic Law on the Security of the Nation guarantees peace, the stability of Venezuela, and the cohesion of the country.
President Maduro also referred to Venezuela’s history regarding its sovereignty and congratulated the country’s military.

He further highlighted the fact that the country is free of cocaine production. “Today, Venezuela is a territory free of coca leaf production, free of drug processing, and very soon we will be 100% free of any attempt to bring even a grain of that drug into the national territory,” he stressed.
Likewise, he emphasized that Venezuela has never had and will never have “a militaristic, imperialistic, colonialist doctrine,” contrary to the actions of the US that violate international law and undermine national sovereignties.
“We have never attacked nor will we ever attack any people on the planet, and especially not in our region,” he said. “It is our great ethical, moral, political, ideological, human, and military difference with the imperialist armies of the past and the present. They have plans to conquer, subjugate, colonize, and dominate the world. Let them have their plans. We have plans for Venezuela to exist in peace, stability, tranquility, and national unity, together with the new multipolar world that has already been born. These are our plans.”
On Friday, the 8.2 million people who are enlisted in the Bolivarian National Militia, along with reservists, began the first day of induction and activated the communal militia units in the 5,336 communal circuits of the country.
