Mass Demonstrations as Venezuela Demands UN Action to Halt US Military Threat

Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—This Monday, Venezuelans took to the streets in great numbers from Petare, east of Caracas, toward the United Nations (UN) headquarters to chant “no to war” and to condemn constant threats from the United States and a possible US military attack against Venezuela.

Upon arriving at the UN headquarters, the marchers delivered a letter asking the UN to uphold its founding Charter in the face of what many consider a US threat to Venezuela disguised as a “war on drugs.”

From outside the UN resident coordinator’s office in Caracas, Pedro Infante of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) urged the international organization to ensure compliance with the principles of the Charter, especially that of “maintaining international peace.”

Ordinary Venezuelans united
Chanting the slogan “Let’s win peace, let’s defend life!”, Yaritza Hernández, from Caucagüita, condemned the attempted false flag promoted by the US to invade Venezuela. She emphasized that the Venezuelan people will always support the country’s tranquility but are also prepared to defend their homeland.

“As a woman, as a mother, as a sister, as a daughter, as an ordinary Venezuelan, we are a country of peace,” Hernández said in an interview with VTV. “But I send a message to those countries that use a false flag for invasion: we are prepared to defend ourselves … we do not want intervention, and we demand peace.”

Deivis Corro, another marcher, addressed the Venezuelan people: “This is an issue that has no political affiliation. Defending our homeland is the responsibility of all Venezuelans. Bolívar gave us freedom almost 200 years ago. Here we are with love and joy, telling the Venezuelan people, ‘Unite and shout to the world that we repudiate invasions, join us in the non-aggression movement,'” Corro said during a live interview.

Another person attending the mobilization was Luis Rivas, who said that “there are those who sell out the nation, they remain silent at the request of the gringos … the Bolivarian movement has risen from the ashes … we are guarantors of world peace, the peace of the Caribbean.”

Peace with firmness
ALBA-TCP’s Executive Secretary Rander Peña emphasized that the Venezuelan government’s firmness in these threatening times has been crucial in uniting the Venezuelan people.

“We are convinced that firmness is the key to ensuring that these times of peace prevail,” said Peña. “Lukewarm politics is a disease, and popular national mobilization and ongoing action to defend the nation are the cure.”

People deployed throughout the country
Caracas Mayor Carmen Meléndez stated that “we are deployed in defense of the homeland. We are mobilized to respond to any threat. We are an independent country, we are not a colony of anyone. We are the guarantors of remaining free, sovereign, and at peace.”

Meléndez sent a message to the far-right opposition not to use October 19th—when José Gregorio Hernández is to be declared a saint—as a political excuse to create violence in the country. “We Venezuelans are asking for peace for our homeland,” she said.

“If, in the unlikely event, something happens, it is not just for the Chavistas, for the revolutionaries; the consequences are against our land,” she added, noting that “constitutional co-responsibility belongs to everyone.”

Venezuela Warns of Far-Right Plot to Bomb US Embassy in False Flag Operation

Earlier, PSUV Secretary General Diosdado Cabello had invited the public to attend this unscheduled march to reject the US’s hostile actions in the Caribbean and defend peace and sovereignty in Venezuela.

The mobilization, which also took place in other regions of the country, occurs in a context of tension following recent accusations by Jorge Rodríguez, head of the government delegation for the Peace Talks, that warned of a foiled far-right “false flag” operation that attempted to bomb the closed US embassy in Caracas.

For the last two months, the US empire has deployed eight warships, 1,200 missiles, and a nuclear submarine to the Caribbean aimed at Venezuela, sparking outrage and unity among the Venezuelan people.
