China has condemned the US empire interfering in its cooperation with Venezuela after issuing a license that allows investment in the South American country’s mining sector but excludes Chinese companies, and called for the lifting of unilateral sanctions against Caracas.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a press conference this Wednesday, April 1, that Beijing “firmly opposes the US side using so-called general licenses to interfere in cooperation between China and Venezuela,” and emphasized that the “legitimate rights and interests” of the Asian country in the Latin American nation “must be protected.”

Mao added that Washington should “immediately lift its illegal unilateral sanctions against Venezuela,” instead of using these licenses to “cover up actions that harm the legitimate rights and interests of Venezuela and other parties,” EFE reports.
The statements come after the US Treasury Department issued a license in recent days authorizing US companies to negotiate, sign contracts, and invest in Venezuela’s mining sector, including the exploitation, processing, and marketing of minerals such as gold, an industry that until now was subject to sanctions.
The measure is part of a series of authorizations recently adopted by Washington to benefit US companies in strategic sectors of Venezuela, such as oil and mining, following the restoration of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the US colonial entity in early March.
