The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) issued a statement condemning the meeting called by the government of Panama to discuss Venezuela’s internal affairs.
The statement, shared on social media by the executive secretary of the alliance, Jorge Arreaza, highlighted that this action by the government of Panama is an “open violation of the sovereignty and self-determination” of Venezuela.

“This call for interference intends to relaunch the failed Lima Group, with identical intentions of destabilization and coup, publicly expressing that the objective of this meeting would be ‘to rehearse more actions that support the democracy of the sister nation of South America,'” the statement decried.
ALBA-TCP emphasized the importance of addressing any regional issues as long as it fully respects international law and the United Nations Charter, “including the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of States.”
“ALBA-TCP repudiates all those actions contrary to the rules governing the international order and invites countries, especially those of Latin America and Caribbean, to respect the decisions and mechanisms of each State and its legitimate institutions,” the document added.
Furthermore, it stressed that the Venezuelan constitution, laws and institutions ensure the full exercise of the people’s sovereignty and independence.
“No country has the right to ‘rehearse actions’ that are not within the framework of respect for the self-determination of peoples,” the text added.
The ALBA-TCP called on the international community to condemn these interfering actions, reaffirmed its support for the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and ratified its respect for the will of the Venezuelan people expressed at the polls on July 28.
