Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian urged the international community to respect the choice of the Venezuelan people, following the ruling confirming the results of the presidential elections issued by the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela last Thursday.
“All parties should respect the choice made by the Venezuelan people and respect Venezuela’s right to choose its own development path. The Venezuelan government and people are capable of managing their internal affairs,” Lin Jian said during a press conference this Monday, August 26, in Beijing in reference to the re-election of Nicolas Maduro as president of Venezuela for the 2025-2031 term.
The spokesperson’s statement comes as part of China’s commitment to Venezuela’s sovereignty and self-determination and was echoed by Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yván Gil.
Foreign Minister Gil expressed his gratitude to China for its call to respect the results of the presidential elections of July 28, which declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner.

Earlier, in a televised interview broadcasted by Venezuelan Television (VTV), Gil noted that the Chinese spokesperson’s message was clear and strong.
“The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has sent a very clear and strong message that the results that gave President Nicolás Maduro Moros the victory and the re-election for the period 2025-2031 should be respected,” stated Gil. “He has also sent a clear signal that Venezuela’s affairs can only be resolved in Venezuela with its government and its people. This is the opinion of the vast majority of the world.”
Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on his election victory, highlighting his leadership in finding a development path that suits his country’s national conditions.
On July 30, Xi praised the “remarkable achievements in national construction” made under Maduro’s leadership and reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to bilateral cooperation after the National Electoral Council announced the results of the presidential election.

“China and Venezuela are mutually trusted friends and partners for joint development,” the Chinese president stressed on that occasion, while expressing his willingness to work together with Maduro to continue strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
He also highlighted China’s support for Venezuela’s efforts to “maintain its national sovereignty, national dignity, and social stability, as well as its just fight against external interference.”
