The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, criticized the former presidential candidate of the Venezuelan far right, Edmundo González Urrutia, and former far-right mayor of Caracas and fugitive from the Venezuelan justice system, Antonio Ledezma, for supporting the Spanish right-wing leader Alberto Núñez FeijĂło’s discourse in defense of Spain’s colonization of Latin America.
“A week ago, Mr. Núñez FeijĂło of the Spanish right wing praised his country’s bloody colonization of Our America. A disgrace,” wrote Arreaza on his Telegram channel.
Arreaza added that it was “a thousand times more shameful” that certain Venezuelan citizens supported the president of the Spanish right-wing Popular Party (PP) and applauded the crimes committed by Spain against indigenous peoples.
“However, it is a thousand times more shameful that Venezuelan citizens like Edmundo González and Antonio Ledezma, present at the event, embraced the Francoist leader, celebrated his speech, and applauded Spain’s crimes and colonialism against our indigenous peoples,” Arreaza highlighted.

He further added that any real patriot who is proud of his country’s independence and his people would, at the very least, have left the place and condemned the narrative.
The ALBA-TCP executive secretary emphasized that people like González and Ledezma should “renounce their [Venezuelan] nationality” and become subjects of the heirs of King Fernando VII and dictator Francisco Franco.
Previously, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yván Gil had condemned Núñez FeijĂło’s speech and added that the Spanish right-wing leader “bordered on the ridiculous” for having declared that Spain went to America to “establish freedom and democracy.”
