Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro appointed Laura Carolina Guerra Angulo as the new president of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), as published in Official Gazette 6,898.
Laura Carolina Guerra Angulo was in charge of the Fund for the Social Protection of Bank Deposits (FOGADE) and the Fund for National Development (FONDEN), among other positions.
Through Decree 5,119 with Rank, Value, and Force of Law of the Central Bank of Venezuela, issued on Friday, April 11, President Maduro also appointed the new directors of BCV, Luis Alberto PĂ©rez González, Christian Eduardo Martell RamĂrez, Carlos Alessandro Cestari Infantini, and Christiam MoisĂ©s Hernández Verdecanna.

To select the five members of the board of directors of the BCV, a Committee for the Evaluation of Merits and Credentials was appointed, composed of representatives of the national government, the National Assembly, and the Council of Vice Presidents of the Council of Ministers.
A total of 46 applications were received after a nationwide public call for applications.
The decision follows President Maduro’s declaration of Economic Emergency on April 7, after the Trump administration announced new sanctions and tariffs targeting the Venezuelan economy.
