The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, participated this Thursday in the special session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in the framework of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Maduro requested the strengthening of multilateralism and rejected the policies of isolationism and supremacism that drive some countries of the world.
“The world has been surprised by the health emergency of this pandemic, the worst in the last 100 years, which has brought to light, as we all know, great vulnerabilities, not only in developing countries, but also among the richest and most powerful countries on the planet, demonstrating that multilateralism, coordinated response, solidarity and cooperation must regain the role that they once had as a global strategy,” he pointed out.
The Venezuelan leader highlighted the achievements made in Venezuela in the fight against the pandemic, which place it among the countries with the lowest rate of infections and mortality in the world, despite the blockade and financial persecution by the United States and its European allies.
“In Venezuela our response to COVID-19 has been marked by the gallantry and the heroism of thousands of women and men who, under the unified direction of the institutions of the State and the national Government, even in the midst of criminal aggression and permanent threats against Venezuela, know how to use all the human and material resources available to our country to serve the people with dedication, discipline, conscience, and a lot of love,” he stressed.

Maduro reiterated his request that the UN and the World Health Organization decree the vaccines that are generated against COVID-19 as goods of global benefit, and reported on the progress made in the search for treatments against this virus in Venezuela.
“We are in negotiations with the WHO to certify the DR-10 molecule, recently discovered in our country, which has therapeutic properties against the COVID-19 virus,” he said, while inviting the nations of the world to create “an alliance for its mass production, once it is endorsed by the World Health Organization.”
“The union of peoples is the most powerful weapon against the coronavirus. Our responsibility to history and to the next generations is not to miss this opportunity to achieve a better world for all,” he added.
