The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, condemned the acts of violence committed by the far right in several parts of the country after the far-right opposition, led by MarĂa Corina Machado, refused to recognize the results of Sunday’s presidential elections. In a speech on the night of Monday, July 29, President Maduro denounced the ultra-right opposition for the violence and trying to it appear like a “spontaneous movements.” He also reported that several people involved in the violent acts have been captured.
The Venezuelan ultra right is generating this violence because it refuses to recognize the electoral results issued in the early hours of Monday morning by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which announced Nicolás Maduro Moros as the winner for the 2025-2031 presidential term.
Regarding the people detained for perpetrating acts of violence, President Maduro reported, “Several dozens of these people have been captured red handed. Eighty percent of those captured have criminal records, some of them have returned very recently on the flights sent by the gringos to Venezuela. Almost 90% of those captured have two characteristics: they are in an advanced state of drug addiction and they are armed. Drugs, weapons and madness.”
He also showed videos of several attacks on public property carried out by the guarimberos (violent demonstrators).
They set fire to a CNE office in Coro, FalcĂłn state.
They attacked and destroyed part of a TransCaracas station on Avenida Fuerzas Armadas in Caracas, near Las Flores market.
