The attorney general of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, presented a report on the outbreak of violence generated by armed criminals on July 29, the day after the presidential election.
During a press conference on Tuesday, July 30, Saab reported that so far 749 people have been arrested and will face criminal charges depending on each case.
These rioters are accused of crimes of public incitement, obstruction of roads, incitement of hatred, resistance to authority, and terrorism.
He also mentioned that as a result of the post-electoral violence that occurred on Monday, a Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) officer was killed in Aragua state and 48 service personnel (including military and police) were injured.
Attorney General Saab added that, as in the past, the organizers of these violent acts used many drug-addicts to carry out their plans.
He said that these were “armed criminals” who acted “to attack and create chaos” as their aim was to seek “foreign intervention.”
“Unlike what happened in previous violent incidents, this time there will be no impunity,” the attorney general said. Throughout his speech he explained the acts of vandalism committed by these extremist groups.
