PSUV: Bolivarian Committees for Comprehensive Grassroots Action To Be Created Through Popular Assemblies

The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) announced that Bolivarian Committees for Comprehensive Grassroots Action will be created through popular assemblies throughout the country.

At a party press conference on Thursday, November 6, PSUV General Secretary Diosdado Cabello confirmed that the assemblies will take place over two weekends: this Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9, and next Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16.

Cabello highlighted the importance of these events reflecting the fundamental characteristics of the Chavista people when they come together: “with joy and enthusiasm, and they must be held in perfect peace and tranquility.”

He added that the Bolivarian Committees will be organized on every street in the country, forming a team with collective leadership made up of at least nine party members elected by their neighbors, who must have a chief whose role would be to coordinate the team.

“The chief will not be a city hall official, or a governor’s office official, nor a member of Group A or B. The chief has to be part of the authentic grassroots leadership. This must be very clear,” he said. “Such a person must have a work agenda, ideological education and training, a permanent defense preparedness agenda, and they will be tasked with organizing revolutionary socialist families.”

Cabello added that the meetings will take place wherever the street decides and that there will be only one governing body. There will be no auxiliary bodies at the state or municipal level.

“Our people have enough maturity to do this without being pushed. The people know what they have to do,” he said.

He further added that the process will be governed by the PSUV’s Declaration of Principles, as set out in the Statutes and the Code of Ethics. These are based on unity; the defense of the Bolivarian Revolution; loyalty to leader and founding President Hugo Chávez, to President Nicolás Maduro; and on a socialist and anti-imperialist character.

Cabello reported that the selection of the Bolivarian Committees members will be carried out through an open, popular consultation of the party’s grassroots via nomination assemblies, where residents will nominate the best people with the appropriate profile and characteristics to assume the responsibilities of these committees.

Cabello also spoke about the creation of social and communal intelligence. “The residents are the ones who know all. Someone came to my community, and no one here knows who they are, plus they do not seem Venezuelan. Well, someone has to report that,” he explained.

He further emphasized that all necessary preparations must be made to transition from unarmed to armed struggle. Similarly, drills of all kinds should continue, the military-police-civic union should be strengthened, first-aid training provided, and social intelligence developed, in addition to other measures that would contribute to the defense of the nation.
