United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Vice President Diosdado Cabello said that imperialism promotes fascism around the world by fostering exclusion, supremacy, wars, and persecution.
“If anything is strengthening fascism, it is imperialism. And imperialism is behind fascism,” Cabello said during his participation in the opening of the World Congress of Antifascist Youth held in La Carlota Convention Center, Caracas, on Friday, November 22.
The PSUV leader pointed out that fascism in the world has different ways of positioning itself and concealing its presence. He gave as an example the United States government’s aim to undermine the world with misery in the name of the “freedom” that they preach. Yet, freedom in Venezuela was coined by independence hero Simón Bolívar.
“In America, we have witnessed coups to end progressive governments… Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, and Paraguay experienced it. America witnessed it, and people timidly said the US was behind it. Today, no one says it is behind it. Today, the whole world knows that the US is at the forefront of coups. No coup in the world does not have imperialism’s blessing,” said Cabello, who is also Venezuela’s Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace.
In his speech, Diosdado Cabello recalled that the colonizers came to destroy everything in the name of civilization, supposedly to educate the people, stealing the wealth. He mentioned that in Venezuela, over half the population died in defense of sovereignty in the struggle for independence against the conquerors.
“Genocide in America. Of course, at that time, nobody talked about fascism. It was about wiping out people, destroying them to seize their natural resources,” Cabello said.
He also addressed the over 500 representatives from 70 countries participating in the World Congress of Antifascist Youth, telling them that they are the world’s hope. He encouraged them to stay in constant communication.

Cabello urged that these types of meetings be repeated so that, together, people can fight fascism. He also added that he is glad they are in Venezuela because they will be able to see that it is a peaceful and tranquil country.
“The youth is fundamental in this great block of struggle against fascism. It must be the driving force and the energy so that there is not a single country in the world that does not have a response to any expression of fascism,” he said.
Finally, Diosdado Cabello affirmed that fascism must be confronted and defeated because it cannot be negotiated with as it has neither values nor words.
