The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has condemned the far-right opposition’s plans to impose a new Carmonazo, in reference to the coup d’état launched by the far-right political sector on April 2002 against then-President Hugo Chávez.
From the headquarters of the Venezuelan National Assembly (AN) this Wednesday, November 20, the national leader warned that these extremists want to launch this new coup d’état because they feel “drunk with power,” following the victory of Donald Trump in the US elections. However, President Maduro noted that they should not underestimate the Venezuelan people.
“They want to impose a new Carmonazo,” said the head of state, “and they believe and feel drunk with power with the support of the imperialist elite of the US, but I tell them now not to underestimate the Venezuelan people.”

He also said that “they will regret it if they mess with the most sacred thing that Venezuela has, which is its Constitution, its people, and its peace.”
President Maduro added that the imperialist elite of the US empire, allied with the Venezuelan far-right opposition, wants Venezuela to surrender its sovereignty and independence to them.
“[The far-right] are people who raise the flag of US aggression and colonialism, but today more than ever we remain on the right side of history,” he said, while describing opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González as “willingly colonized and enslaved.”
President Maduro said that the best way to defend Venezuela and its peace, its development, and its future, is to continue the progress of the structural change, with and led by the people.
“They believe that Venezuela is their colony, just as they treat Machado, González, and the far-right as colonized slaves,” the head of state continued. “They believe that our country has a colonial mentality. Don’t mistake the US for Venezuela, here there are people with values.”
Faced with the threat of a new Carmonazo, the national leader called on the population to defend the territory in order to soar high and achieve prosperity.
